Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. Sexual harassment, which includes sexual violence, is a form of sex discrimination. Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is committed to providing an environment free from discrimination, including discrimination based upon sex. Compliance Services serves as the Title IX office and has the following responsibilities:

Oversee overall Title IX compliance
Ensure prompt and equitable resolutions
Establish a centralized reporting process for all sexual harassment/misconduct allegations on campus
Conduct on-going and annual climate checks/tracking/monitoring of sexual harassment/misconduct allegations on campus
Coordinate all training, education and prevention efforts
Provide resources to students, faculty, and staff to address concerns related to sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual misconduct, and sex discrimination

Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination. It is unwelcome conduct on the basis of sex (of a sexual nature or otherwise):

by an employee of the member who conditions the provision of an aid, benefit, or service of the member on an individual’s participation in that unwelcome sexual conduct;
determined by a reasonable person to be so severe and pervasive and objectively offensive that it effectively denies a person access to the member’s education program or activity; or
sexual assault or dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking based on sex.

If you experience or become aware of sexual assault, sexual misconduct, or other illegal discrimination, the Office of Title IX & Civil Rights can help you understand your options and how to respond. You may:

File an online complaint via EthicsPoint or submit a mandatory report
Notify the Interim Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Title IX Coordinator.
Contact the University Police Department at 361.825.4444

The University Police Department has a crime victim's advocate that can assist you. You can also contact University Counseling, the University Health Center, or Student Conduct & Advocacy as appropriate.

In accordance with TAMU System and TAMU-CC policies and procedures, university employees (including student employees) who experience, observe, or become aware of alleged or suspected discrimination that has been committed by or against a person who was a student enrolled at or an employee of the institution at the time of the incident, must promptly report the incident to the Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Title IX Coordinator. Students are encouraged to report.

TAMU-CC offers innovative, engaging, and informative online courses, created with students and for students. They examines the interconnected issues of hooking up, substance abuse, sexual violence, and healthy relationships through a variety of interactive, realistic scenarios and guided self-reflection. The courses promote a safer campus environment for students through healthier, better-informed decisions about relationships, sex, drugs, and alcohol. Log in using your Islander email and password.

Our university mission is to prepare students for lifelong learning and responsible citizenship. Accordingly, addressing sexual misconduct and violence remains a top campus and A&M System priority. Moreover, Title IX federal and state legislation require institutions to take necessary precautions to prevent sexual assault on their campuses and to respond promptly and effectively when an assault is reported.
