The Island University Celebrates Over 1,100 Islanders During the Fall 2025 Commencement

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As 2025 draws to a close, Islanders are embracing the future with confidence and achievement. On Dec. 13, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi celebrated its Fall 2025 Commencement Ceremony, recognizing more than 1,130 graduates who are ready to embark on their next academic or career journey.

Among those graduates was Lindsey Nanninga ’25, who earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Nanninga balanced a demanding academic load while also juggling significant responsibilities outside the classroom.

“Returning to school full-time, while working full-time, and raising three children has been quite a challenge, but I never gave up,” Nanninga said. “I am proud of myself and the role model I’ve been able to become for my children.”

Roy Gomez ’25, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English, said he found inspiration in the professors and peers who helped him grow as a writer and leader. Whether volunteering as a counselor for summer programs or reciting his work at open mic events, Gomez believes the university encouraged him at every turn.

“The faculty and staff have been so supportive and friendly, always helping position students for success,” Gomez said. “With the help of my professors and peers, I never felt alone.”

Anya Carlson ’25, who received her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, gained a strong foundation of research, leadership, and industry experience through internships and is now prepared to tackle the challenges of her career as she takes on the role of a structural engineer for a Kiewit facility in Westlake, Texas.

“It is bittersweet — I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at TAMU-CC, which makes it hard to leave,” Carlson said. “But I’ve worked hard, and I am ready to start the next chapter of my life applying what I’ve learned at the Island University.”

Angel Runkel ’25, who received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Economics, said her Islander experience was defined by support and rigor in equal measure. Highlights of her time on campus included presenting original econometric research and developing training curriculum for Tutoring and Learning Services.

“My academic journey truly began in childhood,” Runkel said. “But at TAMU-CC, that was strengthened through professors and mentors who believed in me, creating an environment that was both academically challenging and deeply empowering.”

The commencement speaker was Patrick Murray, National President of Coastal Conservation Association. His speech inspired students to embrace their next chapter with confidence, purpose, and a commitment to growth.

“There is so much potential in front of you, but potential only matters if you move toward it,” Murray said. “Progress happens when you stop waiting for certainty and start acting.”
