VA Education Benefits and the Hazlewood Act Exemption
CERTIFICATION REQUEST PORTAL
Requests are processed in the order they are received. Must be submitted every semester/term you want to use Military and Veterans Education Benefits.

Please ensure you have submitted a request in the 'CERTIFICATION REQUEST PORTAL' prior to submitting required/additional documentation.VA Education Benefits (Federal)
STEP 1: Complete VA Application for Benefits.
STEP 2: Once you receive the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA, please upload via 'Certification Request Portal'.
NOTE: Application submissions will only be accepted online. Any other submission types will be considered null and void. For more information, please contact vets@tamucc.edu.
Hazlewood Act Exemption (State)
Documents Needed:
- DD-214
- Texas as 'Home of Record' OR 'Place of Entry'
- Honorable OR General Under Honorable Conditions Discharge
- 181 days of active-duty service (excluding training)
- Completed Hazlewood Act Exemption Application
- Register for your Texas Veterans Commission account through the TVC registration page
- Proof of Texas Residency (Ex: Copy of Texas Driver's License/ID)
- Must be classified as a Texas Resident by the university
- Proof of no VA Education Benefit dedicated to the full payment of tuition and fees using the milConnect Benefits Portal or U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. (Not required for those with military service prior to September 11, 2001)
Dependents/Spouse, all above documents as well as:
- Proof of Dependency (Ex: Birth Certificate, Marriage License, etc.)
- Veteran's VA Letter of Disability (if applicable)
*Can be used in conjunction with VA Education Benefits such as: CH.30 Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty (MGIB-AD), CH.33 Post 9/11 GI Bill (50-90% eligibility) and CH.35 Survivors' and Dependents' Education Assistance (DEA)*
