Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a legislatively mandated program designed to guide Texas public institutions of higher education in helping determine whether entering, non-exempt students are ready for entry-level college coursework in the areas of Mathematics and English Language Arts Reading (ELAR).
All entering students who do not meet a TSI exemption or waiver are required to take the TSI assessment in both MATH and ELAR in order to be eligible to register for classes. TAMU-CC students who do not meet one or more of the established benchmarks of the TSI assessment will receive academic support in the designated content area(s) via college readiness courses.
TSI Exemptions
Students are considered EXEMPT from this program if they meet one or more of the criteria below. Exemptions are permanent and do not need to be renewed each semester. Please see below for the official documentation required for each exemption type.TSI Waivers
TSI waivers may be granted to students based on their completion of college preparatory coursework (including Texas College Bridge), their current student status, or active service in the military or public safety sector. Waivers are NOT permanent and may need to be renewed each semester.TSI Information
Unsure if you need to take the TSI? Unclear about your requirements? Check out these FAQs to see if your question is addressed. If not, send us an email at college.readiness@tamucc.edu.College Readiness Courses
Students who are identified as being not college ready (NCR) in Reading, Writing, or Math based on the TSI Assessment are required to complete college readiness courses.
All of TAMU-CC's college readiness courses are linked to college-level courses in what is known as the corequisite support model. Often the corequisite support courses are taught by the same instructor and provide extra time to receive assistance and practice with the material under their guidance.
